Contributing to the Blog

Several of you have asked about posting your own entries on the blog as opposed to commenting on old posts. I have begun extending authorship to the rest of the staff, let me know if you are interested.

Candyland

For future reference, the 2 player mode does not work on our computers. Dan looked for a patch online to fix it, but none exists. This is another example of why sharing just isn't worth it.

Single player works fine.

Little Tikes "Computer"

The busted one is off the floor. It was last seen skulking around the stacks in the sub-basement.

Little Tikes Computers: Requiem

The psychedelic Little Tikes Computer that has been displaying the "aura" around the mouse has been diagnosed with a broken video card. This will probably be fatal, since the video card it used predates the written word. Hopefully our replacements will arrive in a timely fashion.

Phones, etc

Phones, Suffolkweb, & OPACS are back up.

Suffolk Web, OPACS

The System is having some sort of difficulties. As a result, Suffolk Web and the OPACS are down. You should still be able to search the catalog at the Reference Desk.

Little Tikes Computer is Out of Order

The first computer in The Playspace is dead. Do not turn it on until told otherwise.

Computer Use Clarification

As per RC:

Adults who use computers in CPSD (e.g. Family Computer Room) will be treated the same as they are in the Adult Department. In other words, they will get only 4 free copies (not the 10 we give children). In addition, if they owe $25 or more on their card, they will not be allowed on -- no ifs, ands or buts. Since we don't have Cybrary-N, however, we will have to monitor this manually.I imagine that we will find that a number of adults have become savvy to the fact that they can get served in CPSD when they can't in Adult, andthey're bound to be unhappy about this change. Best of luck.

Incorrect Phone Message

At least some of you have mentioned that our phone menu incorrectly suggests you can reserve a CPSD computer. Dave has been made aware and will be changing the menu shortly with Teri Germano doing the guest vocals.

Printers Fixed?

The repairman was here, the Patron Kyocera isn't running great, but it's running. The Staff Printer is gahhbage--don't use it. Does anyone know if the printer in the Clerk's Office was looked at? I tried it out and it seems to be running, so I'm operating on the assumption that it was fixed. Please let me know if that's not the case.

Little Tikes Computers

An update on the 3 craptacular Little Tikes Computers. We had backordered replacements several months ago, but it appears that the company wont be getting them in anytime soon.

We are currently looking at ordering some ergonomic children's furniture to house some standard PCs, along with kid friendly attachments (large keyboard, easy-to-use mouse).

Something along these lines:

Computer Problems?

Please use this space to inform me of any problems you may have regarding CPSD technology and I will make sure that they are addressed. Using this forum will keep all staff abreast of any problems, how persistent they are, and if they were previously brought up.

IT is still to be notified when appropriate.

El Printer es Muerte.

Currently our two Kyocera FS-C5030N printers (located @ the CPSD Reference Desk are on death's door. IT is aware of the problem and is looking into repairs / replacements. The Staff one is out of order, so please send all your print jobs to the Patron Printer.
If the printer situation further deteriorates, please make IT staff and myself aware.

UPDATE

A service call has been placed as of Monday. Typically it take only 1-2 days for them to follow up.
